Favorite track right now? “Theme De Crabtree”
A recent release from the sound ancestor for many of us in the beat community. I was pretty late on madlib but someone comparing one of my old beats to his work really made me dig. Love his approach to music and I’m sure I was indirectly influenced by him. Every interview I watch I feel everything he says. He doesn’t even let purist control his creativity which I admire. Four Tet did a great job selecting these beats.
Favorite track right now? “Reconnection”
From another beat music OG, this release is a much needed release. The day this came out I hit play in bed and got some more sleep because of it. It’s always been hard for me to turn the brain off even before social media. If you not familiar with this beatmaker then you gotta do some diggin. No judgement just get to it.

Favorite track right now? “Ford, Use It or Seasons Change”
Hard to pick one favorite on this one. Demae’s voice, delivery, ear for beats and pen always grab my ears and calm my mind. I’ve been bumpin’ her since Hawk House and its been ill to see her growth since then. Her sound is undeniable soul music in my opinion. I just had to grab this album on vinyl frfr. I’d suggest you keep up with her releases going forward.
Favorite track right now? “lemon squeezy at haoting studio”
Guess this would be a shameless plug since I’m apart of this project. These songs were made in 2018 during an artist residency with Found Sound China (I only contributed to the first 2 tracks). Features yao.chunyang, Yehaiyahan, Jamnopeanut, Eddie Lu, Kayla Briët and sususu. I spent a month in China with them and the chemistry between us was pretty amazing considering coming from completely different backgrounds. The “lemon squeezy” joint was initially a group project with yehaiyahan, kayla and I. We then recorded a final version later in the trip at a studio in Beijing with help from sususu. I made the beat for “sleep tight with your lies” out loud in a room in rural Lijiang and then all the other residents wrote a verse for it on the spot. I’ll never forget that night or the entire trip. I look forward to reconnecting with everyone again. Be sure to check out these artists….great people and crazy inspiring.
