anger.
I feel like having anger towards the conditions of black people doesn’t have anything to do with being ungrateful for life or being miserable. Our ancestors that we celebrate all the time and those who never got their stories told fought their entire lives for us not to deal with this same shit. I don’t care for the performative progress we’ve been seeing year in and year out. It doesn’t help us or the generations to come. There’s no more time to wait for true progress.
You really can’t expect me to see the conditions of our people in 2021 and act like shit is all good. Feeling a way on a normal basis is not “negativity” that’s just reality. I’ve had my own run-ins with the law that could’ve went left. It’s still a possibility til this day. When you express how you feel then here comes the “but we kill each other”. Like, it always come to that for some reason. You can’t be afraid to dig deeper than that yo. Imagine if the person behind that gun had the same or equal opportunities growing up and wasn’t forced to live in inhuman conditions. Do you just ignore that part of the equation? You found a way, good but you think that’s about to be everybody’s story? No. We’re not inherently evil it’s the environment and if the environment stays the same then guess what? They’re defunding the arts (usual) in favor of more funding for law enforcement here in Baltimore which is ridiculous considering how rich we are with talent.
In the same breath I could go on and on about all the incredible work black people from all different backgrounds are doing today despite the barriers we face. There’s people on the ground doing the work…they just need the extra support. I personally want to do more and will. We all can do more.
We should be able to speak on both ends of the spectrum without receiving judgement like our ancestors didn’t feel the same. You can’t just quote them when it’s convenient. Nothing in me says our ancestors would be happy with these issues that still exist today. But yeah, just pouring my thoughts out. I’ll be the angry black man for caring…
I’ll continue this thought at a later date maybe. Thanks for hearing me out.
